For dental implants to be successful, a patient must have sufficient bone in their jaw. The upper jaw can be a difficult area to insert dental implants due to the primary molars’ proximity to the maxillary sinuses.

If you’ve lost bone in that area due to periodontal disease or tooth loss, or your sinuses are simply sitting too low within your cheek area, you may not have enough space in your jaw to accommodate dental implants.

Sinus lift surgery corrects this problem by raising the sinus floor and developing new bone tissue, increasing bone density in the jaw.

Your dentist will make a small incision in the gums, exposing the bone underneath. They will then cut a hole in the bone, through which they will gently push the sinus upwards, before packing the hole with bone grafting material.

Finally, the dentist will stitch the gums closed and let you know how long you will need to heal before they can fit your dental implant.
